The Princess and The Bride

This story, is like many others before, a story of the past, but also a story of trust and standing up for true love, in any way that you might find true love. And it all began in a kingdom, called Friesonaise, ruled by only a princess.
Friesonaise was a small land in between other great kingdoms and since it had a princess as a ruler, one can’t really call it a kingdom, right? The princess of Friesonaise, Linsane, was at that age, the time had come to find someone to rule with and to mate with. At least so her advisors had mentioned. On their advice, Princess Linsane had summoned a message to all other kingdoms in the area that she was ready to have someone other in her life and kingdom. A companion, not necessarily a marriage. The message was spread only two days before answers came flushing in. The most eligible bachelors were asking to meet the princess and have her hand. But Princess Linsane had a better plan. Instead of asking her suitors to join her, she went to visit them in their homes. She rode through dusk and dawn and met each and every prince of which some she actually liked but none that pleased her. Princess Linsane returned to her court with a feeling of despair, thinking she would never find her companion. Her housemaid opened her carriage door and helped her out, handing her a letter immediately. “Ma’am, You should very well take a look at this one, Ma’am.” Princess Linsane took the letter from her maid and went straight to her chambers. She closed the door behind her and set down on her divan. The maid came rushing in to help her undress from her traveling clothes but she wove her away. She opened the letter and read the first line with a sigh. It was another suitor, wishing to spend time with her. But when she read on, Princess Linsane was surprised to find out this letter was from another princess. She seemed to be in a similar position, ruled alone over her kingdom and was in need of a mate to discuss business and have fun with. Being all alone did not work for these princesses and neither do princes as they found out.
Princess Linsane was happy at the end of the letter and decided to ride out and find this princess. Her kingdom was only a three days ride away.

Since I was not there and have this story heard as a legend on the train, I cannot tell you what exactly happened upon Princess Lisane’s arrival at the other court but I do know that the princesses seemed to be very fond of each other from the beginning. Soon they started to vacation in each other’s palaces for weeks on end, discussing politics and other work stuff, before riding out together and spending the nights talking under the apple tree’s about princes, kingdoms, dresses and shoes.
The princesses grew so close that at one point, a few years after they first met, they decided to join kingdoms. This way, their reach would be bigger and the kings and princes would know not to bother them. This happened with an elaborate celebration, that naturally, included many family members and friends.
Princess Linsane and Princess Pengolia made a new way of ruling, the female way and their kingdoms flourished to amazement of others. They rose from being small, to being heaven on earth for women and all men and women living on their land worshipped the princesses.
But with highs come lows and for these princesses that meant having to deal with Prince Charming. Prince Charming was on the lookout for the princesses ever since he first learned that they did not want to marry a prince. He was effectuated with Princess Pengolia and wasn’t used to be told no.
He had it in his mind that he could easily reach the princess and when he was in front of her, to sweep her off her feet. Princess Pengolia had heard of this danger and decided to be one step ahead of her enemy. She proposed marriage to Princess Linsane. At first the whole staff of advisors was shocked, even Princess Linsane. It was madness for a woman to marry another one of her kind. It was unheard and uncalled for and if they would just find a man all these troubles would be over. No, the princesses had made up their mind. Not just for their kingdoms but also for themselves. Their fondness for one another had grown into love and passion and they were ready for the whole entire world to know that, so they convinced the advisors that this was the plan, and a good one, and to get affairs in motion.
On the day of their wedding they got very emotional and especially Princess Linsane was nervous. She was wondering whether to go through with this ceremony but as soon as the music had started and the doors flew open to show there her bride, Princess Pengolia, all nervosity went away.
Princess Linsane glanced into the crowd of gathered loved ones and saw most of them in awe of the beauty that was walking down the aisle. Princess Pengolia wore a gorgeous gown with a long veil and looked like she was created by angels. Most wedding guests started to choke up and had to let a tear out in sight of the wonder and beauty happening before them. No one, at that moment, had any doubts about this union.
Except, Prince Charming. He had knowledge of this wedding and tried to stop it with all his force but he couldn’t anymore. It was too late by the time he arrived at the palace. The minister had just sealed the marriage. Princess Linsane and Princess Pengolia looked at each other and leaned towards each other for their first kiss. A loud applaud rose from the crowd of guests and the princesses glowed ever more sparkling then before. They took their guest for a nice dinner and had a good party afterwards. The other kingdoms soon acknowledged their union and never tried to conquer the new kingdom in fear of the strong princesses living there. And the princesses went on to live happily ever after with a whole kingdom where equal love and trust and knowing oneself was the creed of life.

But, as mentioned, I only heard this story this morning. I was on my way to work when and old man, still rather handsome, started telling it to me on the train. It took my imagination on its way and I felt the need to share it. The man soon disappeared on me and I could not find him back, no matter how hard I looked for him and I started to think that it was Prince Charming himself, telling the story to make sure that these princesses are honored and remembered for being brave and believing in true love, in any form or shape. Silly me…
